The 1956 Central Shaneville Presidential election was held on the 9 November 1956, John Dunster was the incumbent President and the Liberal Party was the incumbent party.

Dunster's first proper term as President was a busy one with the creation of the Department of Resources and the construction of the Central Shaneville Highway Bridge connecting the islands of Corsica and Sardinia without needing the ferry between the two islands.

He also signed the Central Europe Concession Agreement with the French and Italian governments which solidified France and Italy's claim over the islands and also signed a bill with both their presidents which confirmed that French citizens could move freely between France and Corsica and Italian citizens could move freely between Italy and Sardinia, a development that was met with mixed public opinions, despite this - Dunster's approval rating skyrocketed.

Conservative Leader, Eric Lomax, decided to form a coalition with the Social Credit Party to try and win back the CSP - this was seen as ineffective by both the Liberals and the New Democratic Party as the Social Credit Workers' Party leader, William Fieldhouse, didn't really want to be in the coalition but reluctantly agreed.

John Dunster retained his presidency with not just a parliamentary seat majority but, for the first time in Central Shaneville Presidential election history, a popular vote majority.
