Andreas Scheel (born 20 June 1949) is a Weranian politician and lawyer who currently serves as the Minister of Administrative and Constitutional Reform in the government of Otto von Hößlin. Scheel has also been a member of the House of Councillors since the 1997 House of Councillors election.
A corporate lawyer with an alma mater from the Westbrücken Hoffheim University Scheel worked for several years for the company ÖE Holdings before in 1997 running as a NKP candidate in the House of Councillors for the safe seat of Röttseig being easily elected. Scheel would become a prominent powerbroker within the House of Councillors being a senior member of the neoconservative wing alongside Ulrich Furler in the House of Deputies. In 2009 he became Minister of Agriculture, Forests and Fisheries in the Wittmann government.
Following the NKP's victory in the 2019 election Scheel was invited to serve in the Hösslin government in the newly created Ministry of Administrative and Constitutional Reform. As Minister Scheel has been tasked with reducing bureaucracy and government waste as well as formulating ideas to streamline coordination between the legislature and executive. Scheel also has oversight over other government departments.
Scheel is commonly considered to be in the "inner circle" of von Hösslin and his "closest adviser" in government. Scheel is considered to be associated with the more conservative wing of the NKP supporting a neoconservative foreign policy and social conservatism domestically. Scheel has advocated for the restructuring of the Weranian state to be more efficient and centralised. Scheel has stated that his aim as Minister is to "deconstruct the old bureaucratic elite and create a governing model that is focused on social entrepreneurship rather then solely market or state based solutions".
He is currently running in the 2022 National Consolidation Party leadership election.
