Barghest is the name of a longsword of the Oakeshotte XIIa type, forged in 2015 and currently owned by Aoife Brighteye. It was presented to her following her injury dueling against Colonel Armando Nuelle of Inyursta.

Specifications

The sword is designed as a light one-handed weapon and is 88cm long in total, including a 14cm grip, a 3cm hilt and a 4cm pommel. The blade is 9cm width and is double-edged. The hilt and pommel are made of polished and treated bone, whilst the handle is made of hardened and reinforced pine wrapped in dyed black Ballaugh deer leather. The blade itself is made of folded black steel.

Forging

The blade itself is made of high-speed-steel and has been etched with runes and protective symbols. A human femur bone, belonging to the Cuscatlani ambassador to Brytene, was used to fuel the fires of the forge, a technique believed by many to reduce O2 imperfections and improve metal quality, whilst part of his radius was shaped and used to form the hilt and pommel.

Scabbard

Barghest rests in a fleece-lined black leather full scabbard, with silver cross-hatching and steel fittings.
