An Amphibious Assault Division (AAD) is a specialized division of the Cacertian Royal Army assigned to long-term service aboard the amphibious assault ships of the Cacertian Royal Navy. Men and women who serve in an AAD are the best trained soldiers in the Royal Army and often receive specialized training to accommodate amphibious warfare tactics. Working very closely with Royal Navy personnel, Cacertian AADs are quick reaction forces that are meant to be ready to respond and immediately deploy where needed.

An Amphibious Assault Division is made up of a combined arms naval infantry battalion. The Division is further organized into four main parts that consist of ground forces, aviation forces, logistics support, and a command element. Troop strength consists of 2,000 soldiers commanded by a specially trained and selected colonel. Amphibious Assault Divisions are assigned to amphibious warfare ships of an Amphibious Strike Fleet which consists of a number of other vessels assigned to protect AADs from air, surface, and submersible threats. The escort vessels can range from battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and even submarines. In some cases, an Amphibious Strike Fleet may be deployed in tandem with a Battleship Strike Fleet or Carrier Strike Fleet in specific circumstances.

Characteristics

The Amphibious Assault Division is unique to other elements of the Royal Army in that it combines air, ground, and logistic elements under one commander. The concept of the combined air and ground capabilities of the Division was created in order to maximize the combat potential of a single force. When an AAD is dispatched, it brings all the supplies and logistical support required to quickly accomplish its mission or establish a beachhead for incoming reinforcements. The ability for the an AAD to sustain itself allows it to deploy for operations more quickly than standard infantry and armor battalions of the Royal Army.

Most AADs number approximately 2,000 personnel ranging from mechanized infantry and armoured warfare personnel to VTOL pilots and military logistics support. These man and women are expected to work closely with one another in order to assure smooth deployments during amphibious combat operations. Listed below is a standard loadout for an Amphibious Assault Division.

Elements

Ground Forces

The ground forces of an amphibious assault division consists of a specially selected and trained combined arms mechanized infantry battalion armed with weapons ranging from artillery to main battle tanks. They are equipped to respond to a wide range of missions and are expected to adapt to any number of circumstances as per a mission’s requirements. The primary components often consist of an artillery battery, amphibious assault vehicle platoon, an armored vehicle unit made up of main battle tanks and light armored reconnaissance units, and a mechanized infantry company. The total overall strength of the ground forces division is usually 1,100 soldiers.

Aviation Forces

The aviation unit is an army ground support squadron made up of a medium tiltrotor unit alongside any number of utility and attack helicopters. When deployed with a Carrier Strike Fleet, the aviation unit is often supplemented with carrier-launched AWACs support and multi-role fighters. Accounting for pilots and maintenance crew, the total strength of the aviation division is approximately 600 troops.

Logistics Support

The logistics element consists of the logistics specialists and equipment required to support the operation of an amphibious assault division during a combat deployment. Depending on mission paraments, the logistics division is capable of sustaining an AAD from a total of 15 days to an entire month. It includes service support for medical, dental, standard maintenance, intermediate supply, and transportation. Members of the logistics unit are also trained technical experts and consists of 300 sailors and soldiers combined.

Command Element

The command element provides command and control of the other components of the amphibious assault division. It consists of the AAD’s command, supporting staff, and specialized detachments for reconnaissance, surveillance, communications, electronic warfare, intelligence, and counterintelligence. When operating with other fleets and divisions of the military, liaisons between the two bodies are considered part of the command element. The CE usually numbers 200 soldiers.
