The Chancellor of the United Kingdom of Ottonia is the functional head of government of South Ottonia, serving as the head of the Royal Ottonian Senate and the primary elected deputy to the Storkeneg. Although in theory the Senate and the Chancellor serve in an advisory capacity to the monarch, in practice the monarchs of South Ottonia have entrusted much of the day-to-day governance of the country to the Chancellor, their Cabinet, and the Senate.

Selection and Election

The Chancellor is elected by the Royal Ottonian Senate when the Chancellery is vacant; the vacancy can occur via the resignation or death-in-office by the previous Chancellor, or via their forced removal via a vote of no confidence. Although by custom the Chancellor is typically elected from seated members of the Senate, there is no rule that requires this to be the case, and in fact two Chancellors (Karlus Klaussunn and Joerg Kleiner) have been elected despite not being Senators at the time of their election.
