The Chief Clerk of the Exchequer Department (內吏長大史, nup-reqs-drang-qlat-sreq) is the deputy professional head of the Themiclesian Marine Corps and its second most senior officer, besides the Captain-general of Marines. The incumbent holds command over the Naval Reserves, or reserved battalions of marines, ex officio.
The Exchequer Department was in charge of royal receipts and outlays for much of the medieval period in Themiclesia history, and as such the viceroy of Themiclesian-controlled Meridia heavily corresponded with it to appropriate salary moneys for the payment of marines pressed (or abducted) from friendly cities on the northern coast of Meridia. In 1318, the Chancellor of the Exchequer obtained an imperial decree authorizing the appointment of a new head-clerk for the tabulation of expenses under this heading.
