Chronological Fetishes

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Fetishes serves a rather minor but important role in chronological worship and can be of varying importance and power. However to be an officially chronologically sanctioned fetish so must it be officially created and blessed by the holy chronically itself and by federal law is it illegal to produce fetishes and sell them as such outside of any of the officially sanctioned chronological sects. This have lead to some debates over the small unofficially unsanctioned sects like small remnants of Einild and Återfödelse sects that while once powerful are now but a former shadow of themselves. However in this instance so do the holy chronicles in generally adopt a policy of allowing it while it being officially banished as the minor sects continue to make their own fetishes to their folowers. Secular merchants on the other hand are still punished brutally by secular laws and the chronologically have often been known to officially punish people found doing this to the full extent of their power which generally boils down to Útblót.

The fetishes are used in rituals and prayers often in homes and smaller shrines where it is said that the faith of the user gives them their focus and the power comes from the divine gods they draw their power from. This means that they are weaker than the very powerful statues of the gods in the temples that are not a focus point for power but rather a large representation of the gods themselves so that all the power of the god is called upon when they are worshipped to.

Types of Fetishes

Chronological fetishes can be divided into two types, husfetish and helgefetish. A husfetish or house fetish is the most common version but also the least powerful one found and is very often a statuette of a god or goddess meant to invoke the power of the god or goddess in close proximity of the statuette. This is often done through holy blessings and rituals meaning that the power of the god have been rubbed off on the statuette giving it similar powers, so a fetish of the goddess of healing will in small amounts speed on healing and a statuette of Bel would help it's owner increase his skill in battle for instance and as a result are both often found in hospitals and martial arts training fields respectively.

The second type is a so called helgefetish or holy fetish, this is an item that was once owned by a god or great hero and their glorious power works through them and their powers are much greater for it. This can range from blades owned by old gods and heroes but it has been known that simple house fetishes has been updated to this level if their owner or creator was a great hero or rose touched. This makes them the only kind of relics that the holy chronicles allow it's worshippers to posses or worship as parts of the dead are seen as unclean and should be burned as soon as it is possible.

While in theory all magical items made by the holy chronologically are fetishes in the sense that they are items given power by divine magic so do the holy chronology separates them by function as it is the magical runes that gives power to an artefact but it is the faith and the bound to the god that gives power to the fetish. This combined with the monopoly of the chronologically itself on the construction of fetishes means that they are always either a statuette or an icon of the god or goddess who's power it wants to invoke. However some exceptions exists as rarely are amulets made that are fetishes rather than enchanted artefacts.

Fetishes vs Enchanted objects

Fetishes are generally seen as weaker than enchanted objects and requires faith, sacrifices, and prayers to work properly. According to chronological doctrine so are the difference the way power is granted an object what separates them into enchanted objects and fetishes. Where an enchanted objects calls upon the true power of the gods so are fetishes more like an echo of that power, similar and having the same source but at the same time different and coming from another direction. The advantage of a fetish is though that it also serves as a focal point for prayer and sacrifice which still needs to be done to a god or goddess to gain their blessing.
