The Colony of Owaya is an overseas territory of Vionna-Frankenlisch, administrated as a Colony of the Frankenlischian Empire. Located in northern Wishtonia, Owaya consists of three main islands and several smaller ones. Founded in 1645 by Sir Cecil Walshingham, the colony was Frankenlisch's first posession in the region of Wishtonia and has since grown to be a major Imperial stronghold in the area. As an Imperial colony, Owaya has significant internal self-governance but it is administrated under the supervision of a Governor-General and Vionna-Frankenlisch takes responsibility for its defence and foreign affairs. Owaya's capital and largest settlement is Port Walshingham, located on the south coast of Owaya Major (the largest island of the archipelago).

Etymology

Early indigenous names for the archipelago are not known. Prior to Frankenlischian colonisation in 1645, Owaya had no written texts and the loss of significant portions of the native languages means that there is little evidence pointing towards any single name being used by the indigenous tribes for the archipelago. A study by the Colonial Institute of Gestoria in 2014 suggested that a common moniker for the archipelago was 'Wayanlar', apparently coined around the 14th century by the Yrino tribe of modern-day Kitiney, the Institue's report was criticised, however, for lack of significant evidence and has widely been disregarded.

Frankenlischian colonists named the archipelago Owaya after the Owaji fruit, the most common produce of the island at the time of its colonisation and still an important aspect of Owayan cuisine. Port Walshingham was named after Sir Cecil Walshingham and the islands of Kitiney and Wishynys were named after the captains of two of Walshingham's three ships: Alexander Kitiney and Douglas Wishynys.
