The Communist People's Party (Anikatian: 공산주의 인민 정당, Gongsanjuui Inmin Jeongdang) was the founding and ruling political party of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Anikatia (DSRA). The CPP was the sole governing party of the DSRA until 2001 when the National People's Assembly annulled the law which granted the CPP a monopoly over the political system. The party was founded in 1910s, against the Belfrasian colonialist rule. It was influential in bringing about changes that allowed greater freedom and autonomy to the Anikatian colonial state. During the Great Eastern War the revolutionary group led by Kai Seul-ki helped fight off the Prestonia invaders. Yet after the war the parties key role was undermined and it remained banned by the newly formed republic of Anikatia. Growing resentment and global spread of communism as the Cold War began led to the CPP taking power in the aftermath of the 1967 Revolutions. The party was dissolved on 31 July 2001.

Successors

Following the collapse of the DSRA and a demise of the party, two separate distinct parties formed in its place. The Party of Socialist Unity is often seen as the direct successor which has consolidated the more moderate wing of the party, it is also the large more influential party currently in power once again and taking away votes from the traditional left wing leader the United New Democratic Party. The second is the Communist People's Restoration Party which is seen as the more extreme right-wing and nationalist party, it has been far less successful but retains a seats and voice in both houses.
