Conscription in the Blackhelm Confederacy is a 24-month draft period which is mandatory for all non-Hesperidesian Native male citizens upon turinng 18, with several exeptions. Avoiding the draft is a felony under Blackhelm Confederate criminal code and is punishable by up to four years of imprisonment.

History

Conscription in the Blackhelm Confederacy has been mandatory for all citizens since the foundation of the nation in 1997. Prior to that, the Empire of Exponent enforced mandatory conscription of all Pureblood males since 1923, when the nation was engaged in the Great Astyrian War.

Controversy

The discriminatory nature of conscription in the Blackhelm Confederacy has been alleged by various human rights organziations to be a continuation of Seorsus policies by other means. The mandatory military service opens doors to greater access to an array of "veterans only" resources, services, and housing opportunities within the Blackhelm Confederacy, thereby ensuring that the non-Hesperidesian Native population receives access to these amenities while the majority of natives do not.
