The Pierre De'Calero Class is a medium sized Aircraft Carrier in use by the Inyustan Navy. The ship is named after Pierre De'Calero, a famous Inyurstan rebel, just a year after his death. This class is also the first aircraft carrier in the service of Inyursta - an action which many people believe to mark a new chapter in Inyurstan history and the beginning of a shift in the global balance of power.

Construction

Construction of both Pierre De'Calero Class vessels was done at Marivál shipyards in Porté Ramos Naval Base. An order for an aircraft carrier was first placed in the last months of the administration of Rosetta Marcos, but did not begin until 1991. The first ship was completed just three and a half years later and the second took just one year to build and entered service October 1998.

Information was obtained and shared with the U.S. regarding the larger Nimitz Class aircraft carrier, which this vessel shares a number of similarities; including radar and electronic counter-measure systems in common with.

Armament

The Pierre De'Calero Class is armed entirely for self-defense. It mounts three 20mm Phalanx CIWS guns, one at the front and one on each side as a last defense against incoming projectiles. Four .50 caliber machineguns are mounted around the vessel to fend of small surface craft under the aim of the Phalanx. In 2010 and again in 2012, both vessels were refitted with a 4-cell VLS capable of launching up to 16 RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles to engage enemy aircraft and missiles.

Additional passive defense comes in the form of SLQ-32A(V)4 Countermeasures suit to actively jam and disrupt enemy munitions guidance and the MK46 SRBOC which fires infrared flares and radar chafe to help obsure the ship to the guidance of enemy warheads. The E-7 Decoy Launcher is a recent addition which works by firing an actively transmitting "dummy" out away from the ship to seduce anti-ship missiles away from the body of the ship.

Carrier Air Wing

A total of 42 aircraft can be carried by the Pierre De'Calero Class. This number, while less than half the size of the Nimitz Class, still gives the carrier a significant degree of flexibility and capability in terms of the missions its air wing can perform. The ability to house and launch the IEK-88N interceptor is a key addition to the protection offered to the Pierre De'Calero Class and it's accompanying surface group against hostile air groups and surface vessels.
