The Department of Defence is the federal department in the Caldan Union which supports the Royal Caldan Armed Forces in defending the Caldan Union, her people, and her interests, at home and around the world. The department is part of the Civil Service and is not part of the military. However, under the principle of civilian authority over the military, the minister, along with the prime minister, is included in the chain of command and can give lawful orders to military personnel. The current minister is Richard Byrd. The deputy minister is Lindsay Monroe.
