Disavowed was a Malgravean-Dornalian television series that aired on MBC and the New Dornalian Broadcasting Corporation between 2011 and 2018. It starred Angela Necchi, Larysa Pasternak and Adam Colbert and is commonly regarded as the first major piece of collaborative television between Dornalia and Malgrave.
History
In the immediate aftermath of the end of isolationism in 2000, the then newly reformed Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted a series of long-term studies to try and determine favourable strategies of engagement with the international community, as part of these efforts it was recommended that the Ministry of Culture and Ascension Productions get involved in establishing connections with potential allies in the international community.
In 2010 Wojtek Racław pitched Disavowed to MBC, however, the network wasn't convinced that the proposed setting of Luban would be attractive to local audiences, the project was initially set to be cancelled or put in the archives but at the last moment was suggested to a network in the Dornalian Republic which suggested some improvements to the show such as a change in location to Honolulu and the hiring of Adam Colbert.
Synopsis
Sabina Affini (played by Angela Necchi) is an intelligence officer working for the Special Investigative Service on international assignments, however, during a routine mission in Altea they discover that they have been disavowed by their superiors in Epping and that a burn notice has been put on them, effectively cutting them off from any official resources that they previously had.
After escaping disaster in Altea Sabina manages to escape to Honolulu in the Dornalian Republic, a location that is deemed a sufficient distance away from danger but one in which they can work to clear their name, find out who organised the burn notice and rejoin the Special Investigative Service.
In order to gain funds and support for their end goal, however, Sabina ends up working with several former colleagues in Honolulu to help various individuals that are being targeted by local criminal organisations and can't turn to the legitimate authorities for assistance.

Sabina is outwardly quite emotionally distant as a life of international operations has made it difficult for them to open up to people, however, over the course of the series it is shown that they have a softer side. |
| Larysa Pasternak as Julia Wójcik | Julia Wójcik is a former member of the New Malgravean Communist Party and someone that was briefly in a relationship with Sabina during a previous undercover operation, however, the relationship came to an abrupt end when Sabina's cover identity was nearly blown. Julia and Sabina have a rather tense relationship due to that fact, however, when Sabina ends up in Honolulu Julia ends up lending her support to her efforts. |
| Adam Colbert as Chuck Finley | Chuck Finley is an ex-Dornalian commando that worked with Sabina on several operations as part of their role within the Postal Inspection Service before retiring after an operation turned sour. As one of Sabina's only friends they are willing to help them in their various money-making schemes to find out who burned them. Chuck has a wide range of contacts in the intelligence community that they use either during a mission or to find new work, at the start of the series they have a testy relationship with Julia as they interrupted a deal they were making with some Breheimians, however, eventually they begin to respect each other and develop a friendship. |
| Yi Su-Jin as Moon Chae-Yeong | Moon Chae-Yeong is Sabina's former superior in the Special Investigative Service, initially she tries to distance herself from Sabina and is only persuaded to occasionally provide to Sabina and her friends when she is in desperate need, however, after an incident in season three she becomes more of a regular. At the start of the series she doesn't hold a positive opinion of Chuck Finley due to his womanising ways, however, by the end of the series the two get together in a romantic relationship. |
Reception
Disavowed received mostly positive reviews during its time on air, with the decision to film the entire series from the Dornalian Republic being praised, as prior to that point a majority of film and television had been produced in the country with only a few limited foreign scenes. Angela Necchi was praised for her acting and her ability to accurately speak in the various accents that was required for a few of the undercover operations in the show, while Larysa Pasternak received admiration for the work she put in to accurately portray someone that came from the former Socialist Republic.
The Ministry of Culture and New Dornalian Broadcasting Corporation also received some praise when it was revealed that it was their intervention that ensured Adam Colbert received a role in the show, with critics stating that his role gave the show some important depth and extra heart.
Disavowed was also known for high-profile cameo appearances, with Seo Yi-kyung and Nadine Huntleigh-MacIntyre appearing in a few episodes across the shows running
