Duvalierism

Duvalierism is an ideology developed in Inyursta based upon the beliefs and actions of Jacques Duvalier. It is an republican, anti-colonialist ideology with heavy emphasis on New World national unity across racial and ethnic lines. While Duvalierism itself is impossible to assign to even a two-dimensional left/right authoritarian/libertarian political scale, it's modern adherents often fall on the right side of the spectrum.

History

Duvalierism became popular in Grande Inyursta shortly the expulsion of colonial rule in 1838, wherein Jacques Duvalier was killed and a government which benefit plantation owners, ranch masters and caudillos came to power. The government of Grande Inyursta also passively collaborated with French and Spanish colonial aims in Nueva Aragua and Les Sonorailles; which caused internal dissent amongst many former républicanos.

The name "Duvalierism" was first coined by the powerful dissenter Don Ernesto Roucharde, who often publically claimed that Duvalier would oppose the pseudo-racist policies of the post-colonial regime and would never approve of Inyursta allowing its New World neighbors to remain subjugated by colonial forces.

Cuscatlani general Raul Martinez was influenced by Duvalierism, and came to see the Maoist regime ruling Cuscatlan as a foreign puppet and a form of "red imperialism".

Tenants

  1. Colonialism is inherently evil, always beneficial to the "homeland" and never to the colony, as such all forms of colonialism should be actively resisted.
  2. All territories have a right to independence and self-determination from their foreign rulers.
  3. Monarchy is an unequal form of governance and an archaic relic, and therefore has no place in the New World.
  4. The ethnic identities of New World peoples comes through the unique history of their nation, regardless of heritage or historical place of origin; ergo racial divides are disadvantageous to the success of independent republics.

Unique Interconnected Fate

Duvalier, drawing inspiration from previous leaders such as Simon Bolivar and Cuscatlani General Lopez, believed that nations of the New World shared a common fate and that their success was ultimately better invested in one another than the politics of the Old World.

Coalition Nuveau

Duvalier and his ideological contemporaries called for a coalition or broad cooperative alliance of the newly liberated republics of América Libré to counter the imperial ambitions of England, France and Spain. However, following Inyurstan victory in the war for independence, the post-colonial government of Grande Inyursta made deals with the imperial powers. This not only led to conflict with Cuscatlan, but also a temporary repression of Duvalierist ideals. Furthermore, many of the recently liberated republics turned on one another, permanently ending Duvalier's dream of a new world coalition.

Variants

Because of Duvalierism's undefined positions on aspects such as economic theory or internal policy, it has several more distinct splinter-ideologies.

Neo-Duvalierism

So-called "Neo-Duvalierism" is a modern interpretation of the anti-colonialist views of Duvalierism. Modern adherents suggest that due to the social/political changes and military advancements of the late 20th and 21st centuries, that the direct "conquest colonialism" is no longer a common or likely threat; but that in its place "cultural imperialism" has arisen as the biggest threat to New World sovereignty. Neo-Duvalierism focuses on the rejection and resistance to 21st century Western progressive values in defense of traditional Latin American values.

Inyurstan président Jean-Baptiste Calderone is considered to be a Neo-Duvalierist.

The government of San Regada has been described by many as a Neo-Duvalierist state.

Martinezist-Duvalierism

Martinezist-Duvalierism is a mix of Duvalierism and the Cuscatlani ideology Martinezism which holds that communism and radical leftism are inherently foreign ideologies and through their historical track record have proven themselves effectively a form of colonialism. As such, it is the patriotic duty of the people of the New World to expel or destroy communism and other forms of leftism through any means possible, be they legal, political, military or insurgency. Martinezist-Duvalierism also implies that a strong authoritarian state is the best means of destroying such threats.

Criticism

A common criticism of Duvalierism is that it fails to distinguish itself from basic anti-colonialism and republicanism; with other critics claiming that it is little more than just repackaged nationalism using outdated historic scenarios to justify self-serving militarism and protectionism.

Leftist tabloid paper The Daily Worker has blamed Duvalierism/Neo-Duvalierism as the Number 3 reason why Inyurstans and many of their neighbors reject progressive-liberal values; coming in behind a right-leaning media and influence of the church in society.
