Onboard service

Eastval Airlines follows the no-frills mantra of airline service to the letter. There is only a single class of onboard service, inferior to any other in Radictistan. The airline charges extra for aisle seats as well as for both checked and carry-on luggage. There is no food service on Eastval flights and some aircraft, particularly the Tu-154s, have had their galleys removed in order to add more seats. Passengers are charged for all drinks and snack items. Some aircraft carry advertisements inside the passenger cabin.

Each checked bag incurs a R$70 charge and each item of carry-on luggage R$30.

Accidents and incidents

Eastval Airlines has suffered two hull-loss accidents in its history. Flight 1861 crashed at 0816 on December 11, 2009 near the town of Rotenburg in Hyarpsur. The cause of the crash was the failure of an insufficiently lubricated jackscrew in the tail assembly. All 123 persons onboard the Yak-42 aircraft died in the crash.

A second and more severe incident occurred on March 25, 2010. Flight 2297 crashed shortly after takeoff from Beschertal Municipal Airport at 1018 local time. The aircraft, a Tu-154M trijet, flipped onto its side and plowed into the ground, killing all 161 persons onboard. Improper maintenance of elevator and aileron control cables caused the pilot to lose control during post-takeoff maneuvering. Eastval Airlines was fined R$400 million by the Radictistani government for the gross maintenance lapse and paid an additional R$194 million in compensation to next of kin as part of a legal settlement.
