Fjarðabyggð Prison is an Atlantican prision located on the similarly-named Fjarðabyggð Island, and island of the Atlantican coast. Established in 1929, it is best known for its focus on rehabilitation. Inmates have access to limited internet, computers, CDs, DVDs, books, games, television, fishing, tennis, cross-country skiing, hockey, football, musical instruments, and a sauna. Its humane conditions have led to some, such The Atlantican Daily calling it the "most humane prison in Esquarium". All Atlantican prisoners are sent to Fjarðabyggð, however those convicted of lower and higher-level offences are segregated due to security concerns.
Fjarðabyggð Prison is managed by Prison Director Anita Halidórsdóttir, who leads a staff of 89 workers, none of whom gave guns (although prison guards do have batons, tear gas and pepper spray). Prisoners and staff are encouraged to interact with one another in order to create a sense of community and to make life on the island similar to life in Atlantican society. It has received criticism from the right-wing Democratic Party, primarily over concerns that prisoners who are not Atlantican citizens would be allowed inside Fjarðabyggð.
