Gaokidi is the capital of Gautenga, serving as the spiritual and legislative center of the nation. The city is also home to the Kurifufa Royal Village, which is the residence of the Gauteng monarch, Baruti II.


Overview

Gaokidi is located in the near geographic center of Gautenga, and translates roughly to "Our Hill" in English. Gaokidi has a population of nearly 300,000 people, making it by far the largest settlement in all of Gautenga, and is also the highest point in the nation, sitting on an area that is on average roughly 1,600 meters above sea-level.

Economy

The commerce in the city is centered on two neighboring central business districts, which serve as major employment centers. The western business district holds larger office buildings, department stores and several banks. The eastern business district hosts mainly smaller businesses, markets and street vendors. The central business districts are the largest employment centers within the city.

Gaokidi also serves as Gautenga's industrial hub, and industry in the city is split into two main areas. The one to the north of the central business districts along holds flour mills and other major companies. The other industrial sector lies to the south of the central business districts, and houses mainly textile and footwear companies.
