Gareth II Arthurius is the current Lord Protector of Arthurista, the nation's hereditary monarch and head of state. Born in 1956, he read history at Kingston University. Graduating with a first class degree, he served in the Fleet Air Arm as a Sea King pilot. He participated in peacekeeping missions during the 80s, during which he was known for several daring rescues of ground troops while under fire, feats for which he was to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry beyond the call of duty. He was promoted to Lt Commander of the Commonwealth Navy Reserve at the end of his service period.
He assumed the Lord Protector's Shield when his uncle, David VII, passed away childless in 1986. Compared to his predecessors, he took a more active role in affairs of state within the boundaries set by constitution, being particularly vocal on environmental protection, healthcare reform and veteran affairs. He also returned to academia and currently works as a professor of history at University College Loweport.
In 1984 Gareth married Princess Jane of Ghant. They have two children: Princess Elbareth Arthurius, Duchess of Kingston, Commonwealth Air Force pilot and heir presumptive to the Shield, and Prince Michael Arthurius, Marquuis of Harding, currently a student.
