Geography of Cavia
Cavia is a nation located on the southern tip of the continent of Tanteria, on the planet of Animalia. The nation shares land borders with the nations of Bearilea and Byrdï. The northern border runs along the edge of the Cavian tropics, with the center of the border following the foothills of the Crested mountain chain. As the nation sits on the bottom of the continent, it is a very large peninsula and the rest of its borders are maritime.
The southern and western areas of the nation are generally flat, temperate and subterranean grasslands, with the eastern inland area being a large desert, which contains the lowest point in Cavia, Central Salter Flats, which sits 211 feet below sea level. The hottest temperature ever recorded on the continent has also been recorded in the desert, at 131°F. The center of the nation comprises of a large mountain chain that includes Crested Peak, a mountain with height over 18,000 feet. The mountains have freezing temperatures, and the areas surrounding it have tundra-like climates. Its northern border consists of a subtropical climate, as the border is near the tropical latitudes. Its coastlines enjoy warm summers and mild winters.

Southern Cavia
Southern Cavia comprises mainly of a flatland that enjoys the same climate as that of a beach town, with warm to hot summers and mild winters. The majority of Cavians are settled in this area. The wet winters are typical of the south, however, unlike Mediterranean climates, the area has mildly wet summers as well. This means that the area is classified as a subterranean climate. This classification is consistent among the entire southern region.
The capital, Oscar City, and its neighboring city across the Ancient Bay, Mochiville, have summer temperatures of around 70°F to 100°F regularly, with temperatures dropping further east or west along the southern coast. For example, southwestern city Rockcliff has summer temperatures of 50°F to 80°F, typically in the upper end of the spectrum. Due to winds blowing in from the oceans during the winter, all of southern Cavia generally cools to a temperature of 45° to 70° in the winter. However, winter temperatures are erratic in the south, with temperatures of 90° being recorded in early December for a couple of days.
Western Coastal
The Western Coastal section of Cavia enjoys very similar temperatures to its southern counterpart save for a few changes. During the summer the area has a slightly cooler temperature, with colder winters. Nevertheless, the area is also a flat, subterranean grassland.
Cities among the coast record average summer temperatures of 65°F to 90°F, with the southwestern coast having hotter summer temperatures of around 70°F to 95°F. Due to stronger oceanic breezes the coast is significantly cooler during the winter. All of the Western coastline records average winter temperatures of 35°F to 65°F, with occasional precipitation during both the summer and winter. Snowfall is rare in the southwest, but is becoming more common in the northwest than it was a century ago.
Eastern Section
The Cavian Eastern Section is a desert-like environment with no winters and extremely hot summers. The elevation varies slightly, mainly with small areas below sea level. The extent of this is shown in the Central Salter Flats, which is the lowest point on the nation's surface, which sits 211 feet below sea level.
The Eastern Section is consistently around 80°F to 110°F during the summers. The winters do not cool the area down significantly, with the average winter temperatures recorded at around 75°F to 100°F. However, nighttime sees desert temperatures plummet to an area around 35°F to 55°F every night. This does not change whether it is winter or summer. Rainfall, or any sort of precipitation, is scarce, and usually comes with warmer ocean temperatures increasing evaporation and cloud density over the region during El Niño season.
Central Cavia(Mountainous Regions)
Central Cavia is comprised mainly of the Crested mountain chain, which has two peaks over 5,000 meters. The tallest of these peaks(which is the tallest point in not just Cavia, but the continent of Tanteria) is Crested Peak, which sits 18,750 ft above sea level. Precipitation, mainly in the form of snowfall, is extremely common, with over 30 inches of snow per year throughout the mountain chain.
Temperatures normally reach freezing, and normal temperatures record from 25°F to 45°F throughout the year regardless of season(winter sees slightly lower temperatures). However, altitude plays a larger factor in temperature, as altitudes above 3,000 meters usually see temperatures drop below freezing, to a point at about 5°F consistently.
