The Gylian Sports Confederation (French reformed: Confédération sportive gylienne), abbreviated GSC (CSG), is the umbrella organisation of Gylian sports.
History
The GSC was formed in 1958 through the consolidation of existing sports clubs and organisations into federal governing bodies.
Since establishment, it has had close ties and cooperation with the National Recreation Organisation.
Organisation
It is a confederation of sport federations, legally constituted as an association.
Through its member organisations, it has 6 million members in 100.000 clubs as of 2020.
Activity
The GSC is both a sports governing body and a trade union–cooperative federation. Its responsibilities include:
- Regulating and organising sport activities in Gylias.
- Negotiating collective agreements to guarantee a dignified standard of living to sportspeople.
- Advocating on behalf of the sports movement with governments and other organisations.
- Coordinating the activities of the sports movement in fields such as research and development.
- Defending the democratic and universal character of sport.
- Administering broadcasting rights and contracts, and public betting pools.
- Protecting the sport cultures of Gylias and the positive atmosphere of Gylian sports.
Notably, the GSC is a strong opponent of professionalisation of sports, and has been crucial in maintaining the amateur and semi-professional character of Gylian sports.
As part of its role in protecting sports culture, the GSC regulates the use of music at sporting events, and through its Cultural Committee, commissions and collaborates with musicians to produce songs for Gylias' participation in international tournaments.
