The Huvakian Imperial Ministry of Defense is charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government directly related to national security and the imperial armed forces. The MoD is the largest employer in the country, with nearly 1.7 million active-duty service members (soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen) as of 2019. More employees include another 879,000 civillian employees at various facilities across the country. The Ministry of Defense is headquartered within a specially constructed facility Known as The Phalanx Center in the rural areas of Centuria. The MoD's stated mission is to provide "the military forces needed to deter war and ensure our nation's security". The Ministry of Defense is headed by the Defense Minister, a cabinet-level head who reports directly to the Emperor himself. Beneath the Ministry of Defense are three subordinate military departments: the Department of the Royal Imperial Army, the Department of the Royal Imperial Navy, and the Department of the Royal Imperial Airforce. In addition, multiple national intelligence services are subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. Other Defense agencies include the Ministry Strategic Research Projects (MSRP), the Strategic Capabilities Office (SCO), the Defense Logistics Ministry (DLM), and the Ministry of Missile Defense (MMD), all of which are subordinate to the Minister of Defense. Military operations are managed by six regional or functional Unified Combatant Commands. The Department of Defense also operates several joint service schools, including the Crucible Academy and the Imperial War College (IWC).

The modern Ministry od Defense was created from lessons learned from conflicts in the 1920s and 1930s. Huvakian civil servants and politicians, looking back at the performance of the state during the “Last War”, concluded that there was a need for greater coordination between the three services that made up the armed forces of the then Kingdom of Huvakia—the Royal Navy, the Kings Army and the Royal Air Force. It was proposed that a central command structure be implemented to improve Huvakian response to tactical and strategic progression.
