Invasion of Alameda
The Invasion of Alameda, officially termed the Pacification of Alameda was an invasion initiated by Wazheganon and Rökkurlynd in 1893 against the First Republic of Alameda as a response to the Federation Referendum of 1894. The referendum was proposed in 1890 and officially signed to be voted on in 1892 by the President Veronica Fernández and her government to federate with Gristol-Serkonos. The referendum was an extremely controversial move both within Alameda and regionally within Norumbia. The referendum was seen by many nations north of Alameda as a potentially disrupting force to the balance of power within Norumbia, and threatened to turn the balance in favor of Gristol-Serkonos. The referendum in Alameda was seen as controversial. Certain politicians saw the referendum as an abandonment of the sovereignity of Alamedines and Muscogeans, as well as not in line with the ideas of Alamedine-Muscogean Concordance.
The invasion began in February 18th 1893, where a combined force of Wazheganon and Rökkurlynd soldiers marched into West Alameda. West Alameda was primarily defended and controlled by the lightly-armed Carabineros de Alameda, as opposed to the Army of Alameda. The Carabineros engaged Wazheganon and Rökkurlynd forces in light skirmishes, until their decisive defeat at the Battle of Esseneca. The West Division of Carabineros were forced to return to East Alameda, putting Alameda entirely on the defensive. By July, West Alameda was almost entirely under control by the combined forces of Wazheganon and Rökkurlynd. This was combined with the Qanasi pledge to assist against Alameda, as well as with the invasion of East Alameda.
The war was one of the largest war within Alamedan history and had significant effects on the balance of power in Norumbia. Political attitudes towards Alameda's northern neighbors went from previously being neutral towards outright negativity. Many political parties, while still not entirely on board with federation with Gristol-Serkonos, saw that aligning themselves would be beneficial.
