Jalleq, officially the Socialist Republic of Jalleq, is a nation in northeastern America. It is bordered by Meranuk on two small islands to the north and Silaq to the east. It has a coast with the Qeqertalik Sea to the northeast, the Disko Channel to the north, the Finn Sea to the northwest, the Labrador Sea to the southwest, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast.
Jalleq is ranked moderately high for civil liberties, moderately for HRC-FS human rights, and moderately for political freedom. Jalleq is considered a failed socialist state and is currently in a peaceful state of revolution. Despite this, a peaceful transfer of government has been under way for four months. The new government will grant additional civil liberties, ban certain socialist policies, remove and ban all socialist party members from holding government positions, and several more reforms. Civil liberties have not been overtly violated and have not declined through this process.
Jalleq is rich in several minerals and has extensive mining operations throughout the country. Due to the extremely low essential mineral supplies in many areas of the world, most resources are sourced from Kalaallit and Antarctica. Agriculture is also a very common market and moderate amounts of manufacturing of food, mechanical, and construction products.
Etymology
Jalleq is a shortened form of Kujalleq, which means south in Kalaallisut. This was chosen as a territory name for the territory of Greenland in the second millenia, since it was the southernmost region.
