Valkea Airlines Juhola F1 Team was a Valkean Formula One team owned by Juhola, based in Källälivi, Valkea. Juhola announced their entry into the sport in 2001 - at the time, one of the biggest announcements in Astyrian F1's history - and entered their first car, the JH-001, in the 2003 season. In the thirteen seasons it entered, Juhola was only able to win a single Grand Prix. It announced its withdrawal from Formula One in 2015, and the team was sold to Sevir, who renamed the team as Sevir F1 Team.

Juhola's participation in Formula One has been criticized for disorganized management structure and corporate interference.

History

Origins

Juhola began participating in motorsport in the 1960s as a way to market their cars internationally. They have had success in various racing disciplines, most notably in rallying and touring car racing. They won three Astyrian Rally Championship drivers' titles and three constructors' titles from 1991 to 1993. They also won two drivers' titles and two constructors' titles in the Valkean Touring Car Championship in 1996 and 1997. They also ventured into sports car racing in 1998, but failed to win that year's Astyrian Endurance Championship. Seeing an opportunity, Juhola announced its move to Formula One, and so ended its other motorsports programs to focus on the endeavor.

Unlike their rivals Sorsa and Sidus, who opted to purchase or partner with existing teams, Juhola decided to create its own works team, with its base in Källälivi. The team factory was given significant investment from Juhola's upper management to build state-of-the-art facilities, with the goal of challenging for an AstyF1 championship within five years. In 2002, Juhola tested their car at different AstyF1 circuits to gain additional aerodynamic data to improve the car for 2003.

Early Years (2003-2004)

Juhola made its debut as a Formula One constructor in 2003, with an all-Valkean driver lineup featuring Ari Haapalainen and Niklas Kankkunen. Despite having one of the largest budgets in the field, it proved to be a disappointing year, with Kankkunen scoring only one point throughout the entire season. This came at that year's Hindia Belanda Grand Prix, where half the grid retired due to overheating problems due to the sweltering heat. Kankkunen was able to finish the race in 8th.

Haapalainen was replaced by Rufus Terullius for the following season. 2004 proved to be a much better year for the team, where they scored more points finishes. Tertullius scored the team's first podium at the Caprican Grand Prix, finishing behind the Phaetons of his brother, Augustus Tertullius, and Vasa Petrović. On the other hand, Kankunnen was unable to score any points throughout the season. He could have scored another podium at the Nidwaldeser Grand Prix, but a fuel flow irregularity saw him retire on Lap 23.

Peak (2005)

For the 2005 season, Jimmy Lunt was brought over from MacGregor to partner with Tertullius. The driver pairing proved to be very effective, pushing Juhola up to 3rd in the Constructors' Standings that year behind Raamaker and MacGregor. The high point of the year was Juhola finishing in 1-2 at the Arimathean Grand Prix, with Tertullius getting his first win since his departure from Delaney.
