Kāne Awana is a Kalean activist, philanthropist, and politician. He was born in Hōkūlani, 'Akau, Kalea on 28 July, 1968. He is the current Co-Chair of the Kalean Legislative Assembly.

Early life and education

Kāne Awana was born on 28 July, 1968 in Hōkūlani, 'Akau, Kalea. His parents raised him in a modest household, instilling in him the values of hard work and community service. Kāne attended local public schools, where he demonstrated exceptional academic abilities and a strong interest in politics from an early age. He graduated from Hōkūlani High School as valedictorian, earning him a scholarship to pursue higher education.

Awana went on to attend the University of 'Akau, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science. During his time at the university, he actively participated in various student organizations and engaged in campus debates, further deepening his understanding of political ideologies and policy-making processes.

Early work and political involvement

Following his graduation, Kāne delved into grassroots political activism. He joined the Democratic Union Party (DUP), a major political party within Kalea known for its progressive agenda and emphasis on social welfare. Kāne actively campaigned for DUP candidates during local elections, advocating for social justice and economic equality within his community.

Political career

In 2002, he successfully won a seat in the Kalean Legislative Assembly, representing his hometown of Hōkūlani. On 18 June, 2023, Kāne was elected as Co-Chair of the Legislative Assembly by a majority vote to replace Keonaona Keone after he was caught in the middle of a political scandal where he will serve out the current term.
