History

Content and Programing

Radio 3 typically plays electronic and urban music, distinguished for its more progressive views on modern electronic music. The station was famous in the early 90's for its embrace of Jungle, Drum and Bass, Breakbeat, and Garage music which it would play along with contemporary Hip Hop, Soul, and R&B. Radio 3 has also been known for its talk shows and interviews. Starting in 1994 the station green lit a series of weekly night shows that would air from monday to sunday from 9pm to 12am. These shows would become immensely popular, especially because they would highlight smaller artists and because of licensing agreements between record labels and KUS much of the original content produced for these programs would be in the public domain.

Decompression Chamber Set

Airing on Mondays the Decompression Chamber Set is hosted by clinical psychologist Julien Krinker, where he tackled issues of mental health and well being and plays a selection of music chosen by him and his team to promote deep thought, positive thinking, and mindfulness. The show has been praised as one of the first major pieces of public media addressing mental health in a positive light. It keeps and provides resources for medical assistance and care for listeners to access.

Erik Polsen Show

Airing on Tuesday the Erik Polsen show is a variety show hosted by record Producer and multi-instrumentalist Erik Polsen. The show usually sees Polsen discussing his time as a producer for Lead Horse Studio and Byte Records. He will usually play tracks from said albums on the show and then discuss the history and recording process. alternatively he will invite other record producers, music industry people, or other artists for discussion.

The Late-Late with DJ Brud

Airing on Wednesday the Late-Late is hosted by DJ Brud, which replaced the Midweek Recap hosted by Ari Tilbert. Hosted by DJ Brud of Midtvid fame where he breaks out the extensive KUS Record archive and plays songs he finds personally and historically influential and significant. between these are segments where he talks about the history and story of electronic music in Lyngaard and Arcadia. periodically he will also do a segment where he plays a song and then breaks down and plays the songs it samples.

Local Takeover

Airing on Thursday, Local Takeover is where local artists, either unsigned, signed to small indie labels, or generally smaller acts on major labels will perform a live set of 4 songs. Generally with the average set running around 10 to 15 minutes. The show is hosted by David Tilly and Johan Aggerholm. The show has been noted as an important stepping stone in the careers of many artists including Stacy Albrecht, Yi, and Discotek Mafia among others. Video of the sets is usually streamed on the official Radio 3 Viewtube channel.

Boiler Room

Airing on Fridays, the Boiler Room is similar to Local Takeover but has a focus on Underground, alternative, and more aggressive music which would otherwise not fit into Radio 3's regular format. Essential Mix Set

Airing on Saturdays, The Essential Mix Set is a show hosted by Davy Para. Initially started as Para playing a 4 hour long seamless DJ set with the KUS record Archive, it eventually evolved into a show where guest artists would open up the archive and play their own set, either with Para DJing from records selected from the artists or DJed by the artist themselves. The Essential Mix Set has consistently been the most popular late night program since its first airing. sets by artists like Mike Young, De Døde Hoveder, Mika Larsen, Adisord, and Stratta have won awards and accolades. Because these performances are in the public domain they became popular as backing music for self released Skateboard videos in the 90's and 2000's. Many famous skateboarders like Adam Lassen, Henrik Bisgaard, Mike Delaney, and Kyle Hest who used segments of Essential mix sets in their skate videos went on to host their own sets.
