LGBTQ+ Culture in Vitosium
Vitosium is a very LGBTQ+-friendly country, with its largest cities featuring their own queer areas and communities, such as Gatovita's Pride Village. Social surveys show a general tolerance of homosexuality. Every summer, the nation's LGBTQ+ community celebrates queer pride in all major cities, with many political figures from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments showing support.
History
Same-sex sexual activity was decriminalised in Vitosium in 1963 thanks to the 25th Prime Minister of Vitosium, Sino Tamley. Tamley was the first homosexual Prime Minister of the nation, who would later be succeeded by the second homosexual Prime Minister, Vincent Gatostico.
On June 5th, 1969, Sino Tamley signed the Open Without Discrimination Military Act, which allowed members of the LGBTQ+ community to serve openly in the Vitosian Armed Forces.
On May 22nd, 1970, thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Tamley and the NPP, same-sex marriage was recognized and declared legal.
On March 11th, 1979, John Savori Jr. added sexual orientation as a prohibited basis of discrimination under Section 9 of the Vitosian Charter of Rights and Opportunities. This decision led to an assassination attempt that he managed to survive.
