The Grand Duchy of Leuren (Léuirensch: Groussherzogtum Léuiren) is an autonomous ducal governorship located within the Kingdom of Hesperia. It is bordered by Atmora in the east, to the federal state of the Kingdom of Asvarre in the west. The duchy received its autonomy in 1887 after massive pressure from protest groups that were centered around the region, and has been ruled by a Grand Duke since. The population of the autonomous duchy is 18 million per the January 2017 census, which was also done nationwide.
Leuren's capital is Schärfurt, with a population of 600,000. It is always where the hub of the fledgling Léuirensch language is situated, and it has been a hallmark of its apparent autonomy. Its Grand Duke is Hubrecht II, ruling from 1998, it has boasted its full autonomy as it possesses a parliament and its own currency. It has been in major discussion after talks of an independence referendum surrounded the country in 2016.
Leuren also boasts having a foreign Governor-General, as they are usually the counterpart of the Hesperic government. The country has been categorised as stable, and a place where culture has played a big part in setting itself onto the world stage.
Etymology
Leuren comes from the word High Leurensch "loeren" which means to peddle.It also has been contributed by the Latin word "Lurenum", the Auric name of the region.
History
800s to 1880s
Creation of the region of Leuren dates back to the second half of the 9th century. Leuren was created as a buffer state by Hespere tribes in order to solidify the area. However it would be conquered by Augustus Hespericus fully in 1103.
After it was taken by Gambreans in the 1500s, it had become a seriously tense region. It was finally taken back by Philip VIII who in 1606, admitted Leuren to the Union. Leuren still had a fervor towards independence, and started a rebellion in Scharfurt.
