Baroness Lily Powell of Castaris (Lily Elizabeth Powell ; born 21 June 1987) is the current Baroness of Castaris and a member of the respected House Powell which became prominent in the late sixteenth century in the Empire of Castarcia. She has served as a lady-in-waiting twice, once for Empress Emily I in 2008 and once for Empress Alice I in between 2012 and 2016.

Biography

Family History

House Powell rose to relevance in the final quarter of the sixteenth century, the rich family coming to assert control over Castaris after the previous Barony fell out of favour with the Empress. The House served the crown loyally and faithfully until the Empire's fall in 1703, contributing towards efforts in The Whaler's War and helping keep control of Castarcia in the absence of Empress Caroline.

Until the 20th century, the House still maintained authority over its land through a mix of clever diplomatic agreements and defending it through force. In the 1930's, the House surrendered to Emperor Jeremy I and as a result of their decision were allowed to keep their ancestral home and titles.

Early Life

Born in the middle of 1987, the upbringing of young Lily left little else to be desired. Educated privately in the local area where the generations before her went, she excelled in linguistics and art, and as future Baroness, was tutored in politics. She went on to study linguistics at the University of Pearsonville, with a major focus on English and minor focuses on French and Celtic, and continued her artistic pursuits as a hobby.

Adulthood

After spending three years in the Castarcian capital and graduating with her degree, she found herself in a city home to a newly crowned Emperor and Empress. Her close proximity to the Palace at the time coupled with the uncommonness of noble people in Castarcia saw her become one of the few ladies-in-waiting for Empress Emily I.

However, this role did not last long. When civil war broke out, she returned home to Castaris, where her father commanded the militia of the area. House Powell had fought for the throne centuries ago and it would do so once again in a heartbeat, he said. He, the Baron, was killed when Castaris fell, but Lily, consequently de facto the Baroness, kept up harassing efforts against supply lines behind the front.

She received decoration for these efforts, although as a civilian and not as military personnel. Scott McEleny of the publication Castarcian Life said of the Baroness that "(Lily's) redheaded locks are evocative of a bygone era that we all wish for a return to, when Castarcia had power, confidence and a culture considered unique. She is the type of person we must rebuild our nation with, a woman worthy of leading a House of such stature.".

In August 2012, she found herself returning to her old role once more, this time for Empress Alice I. It was commented by Douglas Wood of the Castarcian Post that "sometimes you have to really question whether she (Lily) is fit for the role, on account that many find themselves more captivated with her than the Empress during interactions." The Baroness did this part-time, successfully balancing it with her duties in Castaris (which she has since returned to full-time) and her pursuits in her personal life.

Personal Life

Lily, who is unmarried, has two younger brothers. She is understood to be a bit of a socialite, who is often seen at concerts, music festivals and exclusive parties. She lives in her ancestral home in Castaris, and funds a local art gallery where several of her paintings and other artworks are hung up and displayed.
