Luerkraft, officially the Municipality of Luerkraft, is a city in the Grand Duchy of Radictistan located on the northern coast of the County of Norcustsur. It is the fifth largest city in Radictistan by population and is the northernmost major population center. Luerkraft is an important port city and a major manufacturing hub. Luerkraft Naval Shipyard, one of the principal operating bases of the Royal Radictistan Navy, is located in Luerkraft.

Government

The Municipality of Luerkraft has a Mayor-council government. A chief executive, called a Statmeister in the Radictistani language, is elected by a popular vote of residents every four years. An eleven-member Municipal Council acts as the legislative branch of the municipal government. Its members are elected by a popular vote every three years from single-member districts. All municipal offices are officially nonpartisan.

Luerkraft is represented in the House of Delegates, the elected lower house of the Radictistani parliament, through two constituencies. One is held by the ruling Fascist Democratic Party and the other by the Labor Party.

Law enforcement

The Luerkraft Municipal Police is responsible for law enforcement in the municipality in conjunction with the County of Norcustsur Police and Royal Security Police.

Geography

Luerkraft is located directly on the northern Norcustsur coast. The topography south of the coastline is mountainous resulting in a rapid increase in elevation above sea level south of the airport and central business district. The municipality has a maximum elevation of twenty-two meters.

Demography

The official population is 6,497,568 persons living within 3,062,590 households. The racial makeup of Luerkraft is 96.1% White, 1.2% Arab, and 2.7% all other races including multiracial persons.

Economy

The economy of Luerkraft is centered around a number of large manufacturing concerns. The Radictistani steelmaker Nor Stahlwerk owns and operates the Luerkraft Werke, an integrated steel mill with a capacity of almost 13 million tonnes of crude steel per year. Radictistan Automotive Works has one of its assembly plants in Luerkraft which produces construction and logging equipment. The semiconductor company Luerkraft Semiconductors is headquartered in Luerkraft and has one of its two fabrication plants within the city. A second plant is located just outside the municipal border. Kustenwach Engineering produces maritime diesel engines and gas turbines as well as steam turbines for power generation. Numerous smaller industrial concerns are located within the municipality. The civil and military ports are major sources of employment within the municipality.

Transport

Air

Luerkraft is served by Luerkraft Municipal Airport. LMA averages over twelve million passengers served annually.

Road

Luerkraft is the northern terminus of the A10 motorway which travels through Hartfer and down to its southern terminus in Greater Nuxenstat.

Rail

Because of its industrial significance, Luerkraft is served by a number of rail lines. Many of the larger industrial concerns such as the Nor Stahlwerk mill and RAW plant have dedicated rail freight terminals as does the Port of Luerkraft. Royal Radictistan Railways also provides passenger service to the municipality. The main rail station is Luerkraft Central Station. The airport also has a station connected to the intercity network.

Port

The Port of Luerkraft is a major container port and point of origin for steel export shipments. The Royal Radictistan Navy's Northern Fleet is headquartered at the adjacent Luerkraft Naval Shipyard.

Public Transit

The Luerkraft Municipal Transit Authority maintains a comprehensive system of public transportation consisting of bus and trolleybus lines plus a tram-train system, LMTA Rail.

Education

Primary and secondary education

The Luerkraft Municipal Education Authority operates tax-funded primary and secondary schools within the municipal boundaries. The education authority priorities vocational education through a large number of secondary schools focusing on industrial training rather than preparation for university.

Tertiary education

The University of Norcustsur-Luerkraft is located within the municipality. It is one of three campuses of the University of Norcustsur system; the other two are located in Hartfer and Marianberg.

Culture

Media

Luerkraft has two daily newspapers. The Luerkraft Beobachter maintains a center-right editorial policy while the competing Luerkraft Times is more sympathetic to the political left. Luerkraft is a major market for broadcast media and is served by a number of private television and radio stations in addition to the state-owned Radictistan Broadcasting Service.

Museums and galleries

The Royal Naval Museum is located near the waterfront. The museum is the official museum of the Royal Radictistan Navy and holds thousands of artifacts related to Radictistan's military history at sea. The Szwarc Museum, endowed by one of the founders of Nor Stahlwerk, is one of the largest art museums in eastern Norcustsur.

Sport

The Luerkraft Galaxy football club, the Luerkraft Schutze football club, and the Luerkraft Stahler rugby club are based in Luerkraft.
