The MCS-22 Manta (Missil de Contré-Submarína) is a long-range ASW rocket with secondary capabilities against surface ships. Drawing from earlier Cold War designs, the Manta is designed to help defeat the threat of SSK's, SSP's and SSN's.

Variants

Ground launched

  • MCS-22T: Standard variant with the Pu-30 GLASS
    • MCS-22SA: Special variant for use against targets in the San Adreas Obduction Zone. Features a two-stage rocket and terminal glide capabilities to extend the range past 120km. Uses the Pu-82 DIAS.

Submarine launched

  • MCS-22Su:

Surface Ship Launched

  • MCS-22S1: Standard variant with the Pu-82 DIAS torpedo warhead.
    • MCS-22S2: Shallow seas variant with additional anti-ship capabilities utilizing the PU-30 GLASS warhead.

The MCS-22u serves as the primary armament of the Roucharde Class Frigate, where it is deployed as a dual-missile reloading arm launcher, and can also be deployed from the SSU-12 VLS system on the Valízeno-Class Cruiser and D'Andalucía Class Destroyer. It is as deployed from an SSU-10 VLS cell on the top of the Mirage Class Submarine as the MCS-22S. It can be fitted to the same VLS system on the Type-60 Attack Submarine and Type-64 Attack Submarine, however this configuration has not yet been put into action. The ground-based MCS-22T is mounted on a TEL carrying three missiles a piece, which receives commands from a seperate vehicle unit in coordination with GPS and sonar data.

Warhead

The MCS-22 Manta is armed with a specially made torpedo, the Pu-82 DIAS (Deep Impact Anti-Submarine), which is only in use as the warhead of this missile. It weighs roughly 460kg, with a total of 51kg's of explosives (equivalent to 80kg TNT). This torpedo can strike targets as deep as 600m bellow the surface as far away as 10km from the impact point, and is designed with a tandem shape charge to effectively penetrate the hulls of enemy submarines.
