The Malgravean Royal Navy is the maritime combat branch of the Malgravean Armed Forces. It is a professional blue-water navy which operates across Mystria and beyond.

Historically, the Royal Navy was instrumental in the establishment of the Malgravean state and was instrumental in ensuring its survival during the Great Exodus which ensured that the military service continued to receive support even during the Malgravean Civil War and the long period of isolation.

Since emerging from isolationism, the Royal Navy has received considerable investment and is commonly regarded as the prime focus of Malgravean military efforts. While not the largest fleet in the region, the Royal Navy maintains a highly capable fleet which has performed admirably during historic naval missions and is considered by many netizens to be the pride of Malgrave.

History

Technically, the Royal Navy can trace its foundations prior to the establishment of the Malgravean state, as it was formed to protect convoys of civilian transports as they set to establish Malgrave. In these early years, the Royal Navy focused on purely defensive operations and training the next generation of sailors, however, these plans were changed when Imeriata invaded Malgrave, as heavy combat between the Imerian and Malgraveans soon resulted in the Great Exodus.

It was during the Great Exodus when the Royal Navy entered into the hearts of the Malgravean population, as elements of the Royal Navy launched a fierce counter-attack against the numerically superior Imerian Navy and were able to smash their way through the blockade lines to establish a safe corridor for civilian transports to escape mostly unharmed and re-establish themselves in a new homeland far removed from Imerian aggression.

For this action, the Royal Navy were highly lauded for their bravery and heroism. In the early stages of the Malgravean Civil War, this position was maintained when the Royal Navy remained loyal to the central government in Epping and contributed to defensive efforts which prevented Epping from falling into the hands of the National Workers' Republic of Malgrave. During the civil war, the Royal Navy didn't play a major role in the combat, however, the force was given limited resources to establish a number of overseas bases on natural and artificial islands to organise intelligence-gathering missions and support scientific exploration.

Post-War Operations

Starting in 2000, the Royal Navy started openly operating in Mystrian waters with the launch of Operation Gannet, a long-range mission designed to disrupt the activity of pirates and slavers operating in the region. In this mission, the Royal Navy operated from the mainland and a variety of natural and artificial islands they had maintained during the years of isolation, however, starting from 2005 they also started to base operations from Cerne in the Research Colony.

Operation Gannet achieved a few successes, as dozens of slaver vessels and pirates were disrupted, however, it was criticised for being limited in scope and not including the full resources of the Royal Navy. In 2010 it was replaced with Operation Infinite Reach and Operation Open Hand. Infinite Reach was an extension of Operation Gannet, with the major difference being the increase in resources and the inclusion of non-Mystrian waters in the operation while Operation Open Hand was specifically targeted against Imerian shipping and resulted in the first contact between Imerians and Malgraveans following the Great Exodus.

In 2011, the Royal Navy was engaged in a variety of naval operations off Naxos, a medium sized island which was settled by the Malgravean government in the 1950s as a research hub. Assets from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force engaged in search and rescue operations to assist ships from a non-Mystrian nation that had entered difficulty during bad weather conditions and were later involved in an interception of a hostile force which had attempted to claim the Naxos island for their own ends. At the time Netizens praised the Royal Navy for its ability to operate in harsh conditions to rescue foreign nationals and protect Malgravean territory.

In 2012, the Royal Navy contributed assets to a blockade placed upon Voradia following crimes contributed by their regime. Malgrave was initially supported by other nations in this endeavour, however, over the course of the operation each withdrew which meant that the blockade was solely maintained by the Royal Navy. Netizens poured praise on the Royal Navy for being able to carry out this feat and it is still used by many as an example of the professionalism and skill of the Royal Navy.

As part of anti-slavery operations, the Royal Navy began operations off the coast of Mystrian Altea. The Royal Navy launched several cruise missiles against targets within Altea with the aim of disrupting parts of the slave trade within that country and also engaged assets of the Imerian navy which were supporting Altean efforts at the time. Such combat resulted in the loss of four Malgravean vessels, however, the overall outcome was perceived as positive and the returning ships were lauded upon their return to Malgrave.

In 2012, the Royal Navy observed strange incidents occurring within the Orussian Empire and assisted efforts launched by a few scientific institutes to research the phenomenon. It was eventually concluded that the incident was caused by the testing of a weapon of mass destruction designed to disrupt ancestral energy, as part of this operation the Royal Navy rescued survivors from the incident spot and confiscated the equipment involved.

In the same year, the Royal Navy deployed assets to support the Territorial Defence Force and humanitarian efforts being conducted by the Ancestral Study Group and Free Democratic Youth in D'hɑlbrisir. The Royal Navy transported troops and civilians between Malgrave and D'hɑlbrisir and also conducted strikes against hostile targets in the country to support defensive operations conducted by the TDF.

In 2013, the Royal Navy took part in a series of extensive military exercises designed to test the abilities of the armed forces to defend against invasion from a larger hostile power, an unnamed enemy often suspected to be the Imerians or Herdites. Operation Resolute Puffin made several recommendations to enhance the capabilities of the Territorial Defence Force and the Royal Air Force in response to failures noted during their operations, however, couldn't make any negative reports on the Royal Navy as they were even able to virtually incapacitate a Longsword-class Supercapital Guided Missile Warship which had been sent as a no-win situation.

In 2014 it was reported in the Royal Malgravean Times that the Royal Navy had several ships that weren't constructed in Malgravean dockyards. Such news wasn't truly alarming, as Malgrave had a few ships constructed in Breheim and Kouralia, however, what was strange is that they didn't appear in the order books. It was eventually revealed that these ships had been found empty during patrols as part of Operation Infinite Reach with their origin eventually being found in the Greater Pony Herd.

In 2015, the United Kingdom of Malgrave intervened in civil unrest that broke out in the non-Mystrian country of Ejima, with the Territorial Defence Force acting as international peacekeepers to prevent the outbreak of sectarian violence. As part of this effort, the Royal Navy worked to transport troops and supplies to Ejima but also maintained a presence in the region to deter violence from hostile naval forces and act against opportunistic pirates and slavers.

In 2017, the Royal Navy assisted humanitarian efforts in Takshistan as Malgrave worked to deliver aid to the country following a series of earthquakes. Such an operation again involved the transport capability of the Royal Navy, however, it also included convoy protection duty as the Royal Navy had to contest potentially hostile seas while travelling to the region.

In 2020, the Royal Navy took part in operations launched by Malgrave to assist Silverdale during a period known in Malgrave as the Silverdalean crisis. Vessels from the Royal Navy engaged in operations to hunt and destroy monsters from local waters, ferry troops and supplies to Silverdale and assist in the evacuation of refugees.

After the conclusion of the Silverdalean crisis, the Royal Navy was caught as Grogar returned. It was revealed that a number of Malgravean vessels had been disabled by an anti-technology zone created by Grogar upon his return, however, the Royal Navy has continued to operate outside the anti-technology zone to deliver supplies to the Research Colony and safely escort Silverdalean refugees back home.

In the aftermath of the Mystria Prosperity Convention, the Royal Navy relocated assets which were part of Operation Infinite Reach to form a blockade of Catedonia and the Dragon States. In response to aggression from the Dragon States, the Royal Navy directed more assets to the region and started anti-submarine operations, convoy protection details and started hitting land-based targets in support of friendly resistance movements in Catedonia.
