Monnas is a subprefecture of the Sabatera province in the northern Asarana Mountains region in Paraboca. In 2022, the commune had a population of 19,214; its urban area had 39,780 inhabitants. Monnas is situated on the river Arla, close to the confluence with the river Asere. Its altitude ranges from 345 to 2,037 meters (1,132 to 6,683 ft). Nearby mountains include Mount Talbaras, which is one of the highest mountains in Euronia at 6,591 m. The annexation of Monnas merged the city to Paraboca in 1560. This idyllic and touristic town experienced an industrial development in the 19th century with silk manufacturing and coffee cultivation on the nearby slopes. Some of its industrial legacy remains today with the headquarters of ETN-APA bearings, Saloma, Entrema and Dassato Aviation. From the end of the 19th century, Monnas developed tourism around its lake summer facilities, winter resorts proximity and cultural attraction with its castle renovation and fine art museum opening in 1956 and the Monnas Film Festival since 1963, hosted in the city's cultural center. Monnas hosted the 2023 Winter Olympic Games.
