Mordent, officially the Protectorate of Mordent, is an island located north of the Sea of Crowns in Greater Dienstad. Originally it was home to the Kingdom of Mordent until after the War of 1832 when the Mordentish Crown decided to move the seat of power and Mordent then became a protectorate of the Commonwealth of Morrdh. In recent years it was occupied by the Kingdom of Imbrinium, but now it is jointly administrated between the Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

History

Prehistory

Human settlement of Mordent is believed to have occurred from 10,000 to 14,000 years ago, this is based upon archaeological studies conducted over the years. The earliest human remains found on Mordent have been carbon dated to almost 10,000 years ago with evidence to suggest that the island had been inhabited since before this time. The earliest settlers were simple nomadic hunter-gatherers, but over time fishing developed along with the first permanent settlements. A tribal society also began to emerge, which developed into two major tribes' the Mors and the Dents.

Kingdom of Mordent

By the 3rd Century AD, Mordent had come to be dominated by the Mors and the Dents. The two tribes had been constant rivals and clashes between them weren't unheard of, though through the latter half of the 2nd Century their attention had been focused on dealing with the increasing attacks made by Ordenite raiders. 284 AD saw an attempted Ordenite invasion that prompted the Mors and the Dents to join forces, eventually leading to them unifying under the rule of the Dentish Rí (King) Alfred. After the Ordenite invaders had been repelled, the Kingdom of Mordent was founded with Alfred as its first Ard-Rí (High King).

War against the First Empire of the Golden Throne.

The Grand Fleet

The War of 1832 against the First Empire of the Golden Throne saw Mordent left devastated and stricken with famine. The infamous Rat Plague struck in 1833 and Mordent started to reach the point where it would soon become uninhabitable, home only to the skeletons and ruins of a dead kingdom. With a heavy heart, Rí (King) Robert Cathmore declared an exodus and an armada of vessels was assembled. These vessels would become known as the Grand Fleet and would spend a great many months at sea before arriving in Morrdh by mid-1834.
