The NAA-280 Jaquétòn (Navèra d’Attaqué Automé) is a maritime "suicide drone" produced in Inyursta. It is the first operational class of such seaborne drones to enter service, and anticipated to spearhead a family of affordable and mass-producible unmanned ordinance carriers.
Design
At 4.9m but with two pairs of fins, the NAA-280 visually resembles the love child of a torpedo and a missile. The warhead is a 280kg multi-stage munition, which is consists of a first-stage shape charge and a second-stage follow-through-bomb which explodes inside the vessel. A toroidal propeller is used to dampen the sound of an approaching NAA-280 while providing stable forward propulsion.
Operation
NAA-280 can be deployed via boat, ground-based trailers or submarines. Once in the water, the Jaquétòn navigates via intermittent GPS updates until it nears the target. Approximately 12km from the pre-programmed "target" the drone then enters its terminal guidance mode. Depending on the variant, the Jaquétòn utilizes either a remote TV-guided mode (NAA-280T) where an operator manually directs the drone into a target ship; or active sonar with hydrophone guidance mode (NAA-280A) where the drone seeks out and chases down a target based on pre-programmed sonar profile.
The NAA-280 Jaquétòn can engage targets at a claimed range of 1,000km, though no public testing or combat data exist to verify this. With a warhead comparable to a small anti-ship missile, and at a lower price, the drone is designed to either assist in "saturation attacks" of active enemy fleets or to threaten ships at port.
