Natalya Maijlis Vranić is a Syaran-born Acrean politican and diplomat serving as an MP in the Riksdag for the constituency of Vislanda in Kongsberg, Götland. She is head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Riksdag, and formerly sat on the Defence Committee.
Personal Life
Vranić was born on 13 June 1987 in Zovahr, to Damir and Adrijana Vranić. She is an ethnic Scitarian. Her family, originally from the city if Iani, fled Syara in 1987 as part of the Vjeraniki- Syarans who emmigrated to Acrea during and after the Refusal War. Her family was secured passage and resettlement due to her father's position as a Royalist officer working closely with Acrean troops deployed to support the Royalist war effort. The family's prominence in Acrea arose from her father's postwar military and political exploits. Following the family's resettlement in Acrea, Damir Vranić re-entered military service in the Acrean Armed Forces where he would serve with distinction.
Vranić attended a private school in Kongsberg, graduating with her abitur in 2005 and going on to attend the University of Stavanger for international relations which she completed in 2019. According to Vranić, her parents gave her the Acrean middle name Maijlis in an attempt to help her fit in.
Career
Vranić worked as an intern for the Acrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs beginning in 2008. After graduating university in 2009 she began working as a diplomat for the Ministry as part of its Ruvelka desk in the midst of the Zemplen War, though her first foreign posting wouldn't come until after the conflict in 2010 when she was assigned to the Acrean Embassy in Zovahr. She worked in the foreign service until 2015, when she left her work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to run for the Riksdag seat for her home constituency, which she won.
Vranić became known for her intensive and exhaustive questioning during committee hearings while serving as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Defence Committee in the Riksdag. Though sometimes criticised for her inexperience, Vranić's down-to-earth and pragmatic personality resonated strongly with Acrean voters and she enjoys high approval ratings both within her own constituency and elsewhere. She became known as one of the staunchest supporters of pro-Ruvelkan legislation, and initially vocally opposed the initative by Sørensen's Chancellery to support the normalisation of relations between Ruvelka and Syara though later became amenable.
Today, Vranić serves on the Riksdag's Foreign Relations Committee, and is responsible for coordinating and helping form the Chancellor's foreign policy alongside Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Skjæran.
