The National Defense Army (Carinansian: Exército de Defensa Nacional) was the paramilitary wing of the Serene Revivalist Party. It played a significant role in Ramon Galvez's significant democratic backsliding and institutional reform in the early years of his presidency. Its primary purposes were providing protection for Serene Revivalist rallies and assemblies, disrupting the meetings of opposing parties, fighting against the paramilitary units of resistance movements, preventing the dissipation of anti-government materials, jailing dissidents and refugees, and overseeing presidential elections.
