The National Militia (Hétumogerian: Nemzeti Milícia; Abbre. NM) was the military organization that was created for the purpose of organizing partisan forces and militia levies during the Citizenry Uprising. The National Militia consisted of the National Militia Army and the National Militia Air Force. Due to the unique nature of the National Militia, the exact amount of personnel and reserves were never calculated as the Militia consisted of levies and partisans. At its height the National Militia consisted of around 150,000 volunteers, levies and partisans. After the beginning of the Hegyhát Revolution and the Sió Indigeneous Revolt, National Militia was increased to include the Hégyhat National Militia and the Sió Citizens Army. The National Militia was disbanded as a result of the Treaty of Nagymező and was turned into the Citizens Armed Forces.

The National Militia was created after the Militia Storming of Komáron and was mainly organized by Vilmos Mátyás with assistance from Donát Tót and András Rákosi. The National Militia was originally organized as a collaborative effort by the three generals and the Four Vanguards, but was reorganized to be led exclusively by the National Militia Strategic Council after the creation of the Citizens Republic of Hétumoger.

During the onset of the war, the National Militia was technologically outpaced by the Armed Forces of the Noble Republic, and was reliant on raiding and stealing military equipment during the entirety of the Kisigmánd Revolt. During the war, the National Militia had dealt with this handicap by being dependent on successful strategy and the use of the Nationalist espionage network that allowed them to outpace the Noble Republic with information.

Role

In the constitution of the Citizens Republic that was written during the Transitional Citizens Authority, the National Militia is to serve as the armed force of the Citizens Republic. The specific role that was stated in the constitution was that the National Militia "shall guarantee the independence of the Polgárság from the Nemesség and fight for the freedom of the people against the aggression of those who attack the Polgárság and their rights." The National Militia was never separated from a police role, so as the Citizens Republic was established, the National Militia constituted a volunteer policing force.

Command

Unlike most traditional armies where full control is given to the head of government or head of state, the National Militia is commanded by the National Militia Strategic Council, informally at first during the Battle of Komáron and later formally written as the constitutional head of the army.
