Toponymy

The name London comes from the Dangish words lon don, meaning something.

Historically, the city was referred to as London. During the Dangish Romanticism era, Old London, also called Drowned London, was a popular literary theme as writers referred to the lost city that preceded the later Dangish capital. The first reference to the capital as "New London" during this period came in 1781 in Narcissus Charybdis's poem London Was, London Shall Be. Members of the Flood Club, the society of which Charybdis was also a member, quickly adopted the name New London, using it almost exclusively. Another Floodite, Heston Lord Strawwater, was elected MP for [some borough in London] in 1786 and introduced the name to the parliament. ??? name winds up adopted.

History

The original London was destroyed by a tsunami following the 761 Mare Ferum earthquake and refounded on safer ground.
