The Nykov Ny-114 is a a long-range strategic airlift jet aircraft. Manufactured by Nykov in Anikatia, largely derived from the Ny-107 airliner during the 1980s. In light of the need for a new heavy intercontinental-range strategic airlift capability. The Ny-114 is among the largest convermilitary aircraft in the world.
The Ny-114 had a rather complicated development; and significant cost overruns were experienced as Nykov suffered significant difficulties repossessing as many components from the Ny-107 airframe of which the Ny-114 was derived. Problems with wing fractures were discovered during the early stages and eventually Ny-114 differed greatly from the Ny-107 of which it was based.
The Ny-114 has been operated by Anikatian Air Force since 1984. In that time, it has been used to support many Anikatian military operations in all major conflicts region wide as well as internationally. The Ny-114UM is completely new build version that is substantially upgraded version with new engines and modernized avionics, and in flight refueling.
History
In 1972, the new Socialist Anikatian government realised a urgent need for a very large strategic transport aircraft. As many nations cancelled cooperation with the new Socialist government as domestic solutions was seen as vital. The large Nykov Ny-107 airliner which was then underdevelopment was seen as simple and quick solution. While a number of stripped out version were trialed resulting in the Ny-112DPTT dual purpose aerial refueling tanker and light transport. Almost complete redesigns to major areas of the aircraft were undertaken delaying it's introduction. Changes included almost complete wing redesign, and engine placement, structural reinforcement, front and rear cargo doors, new landing gear system and placement. Once the major redesign an changes were implemented the design was seen to be very effective and was quickly adopted by the armed forces.
Design
The Ny-114 is a large high-wing cargo aircraft. It has a distinctive twin tail, 37.5-degree wing sweep, and four Arsanukayev AVT-3 turbofan engines mounted on pylons beneath the wings. It has both nose and aft doors for swift loading and unloading of cargo. It has two decks: the lower deck - cargo compartment; upper deck - cabin crew, cabin relief crew, cabin attendants up to 82 persons.
Aircraft comes with cargo handling equipment, on-board mobile cranes with a total capacity of up to 25 tons, mooring equipment. Ny-114 is able to carry up to 535 paratroopers or 975 soldiers with full equipment. Up to 150 tonnes (150 long tons; 170 short tons) of cargo can be carried in a military Ny-114; it can also carry 82 passengers in an upper deck behind the wing centre section.
