The Red Decade is a term commonly used to refer to the interregnum in Vionna-Frankenlisch between the Imperial Civil War and the Vionna-Frankenlischian War of Restoration. The period spanned thirteen years from 1967 to 1980. During the Red Decade, Vionna-Frankenlisch was ruled by an autocratic socialist government known as the Democratic People's Republic of Vionna-Frankenlisch.

Conflict

The Red Decade was dominated by four military conflicts.

The Imperial Civil War took place from July 1966 to March 1968. It was the conflict which began the Red Decade and cemented the new socialist government in place. Leftist uprisings in the summer of 1966 took place all over the country and government meddling combined with military incompetence prevented the Imperial Vionna-Frankenlischian Army from crushing the rebellion in its early stages. The main stage of the war lasted from the first uprisings on the 11th of July, 1966 to the fall of Parliament Square during the Battle of Frankenlisch on the 2nd of March, 1967. Following that date, there was limited fighting as the socialist government struggled to claim the colonies of the Frankenlischian Empire but these campaigns ended in March 1968 with limited success.

The Gallandic Civil War was a conflict in the Kingdom of Gallandia during the 1970s. The ruling monarchy in Gallandia faced widescale rebellion by left-wing and democratic groups. The DPRVF initially supported the rebels with arms, finance and advisors but, after a year of relative inactivity by rebel groups and against the wishes of Marshal Howell, Vionna-Frankenlischian military aid was agreed upon. During the conflict, between 200,000 and 250,000 Vionna-Frankenlischian soldiers served in Gallandia. The conflict is noted for its toll on the civilian population; starvation, destruction and atrocities were commonplace and many highlight the conflict as the height of brutality and barbarism, despite noble goals on both sides.

The War of Resistance is the name most often used to refer to the ongoing efforts of underground resistance units in Vionna-Frankenlisch alongside the official conflict fought between Imperial Wolfswood and the DPRVF between 1967 and 1979. Due to the mountainous terrain of the Wolfswood-Vionna border regions, DPRVF forces found great difficulty taking any offensive action, heavy fighting took place where Vionna-Frankenlischian forces made attacks against defensive lines between the mountainous regions and the Belvanian border. Across Vionna-Frankenlisch, resistance efforts continued throughout the entire existence of the DPRVF, an estimated 60,000 resistance fighters operated in Vionna-Frankenlisch between 1967 and 1980; 2,148 resistance fighters are estimated to have been killed during the War of Resistance.

The Vionna-Frankenlischian War of Restoration was a short conflict during 1980. Anti-government forces, consisting of Royalists and pro-democratic groups rose up across Vionna-Frankenlisch, led by the Earl of Westonland. These uprisings were coordinated with a joint invasion by Germana and Wolfswood. The Vionnan Red Army was overwhelmed quickly and Marshal Howell made his last stand at Lawrenceville and was killed in the fighting. The war lasted about ten days and led to the restoration of the monarchy and the end of the Red Decade.
