Rena is the capital of Acrea which also serves as the capital of the region of Götland. Rena is located in north-central Acrea, straddling both banks of the Åare river, facing the foothills of the Nordháls mountain range. It has a population of 3,664,088 within the city itself, with its metropolitan area having a population of 6,752,431 making it the second largest city in Acrea by population, and the third largest metropolitan area. Prior to 96 BCE, Rena was known as Akýr, from which the alternate spelling Acre and the name Acrea are derived. The city is known to have first been organised as a community in the 8th century BCE making it Acrea's oldest known continuously inhabited city, though the land is thought to have been settled much longer than that. Successively, the city became the capital of the Acrean League, Acrean Empire, and the modern Kingdom of Acrea. Although much of the old city has been built over and integrated with new construction over time, many old buildings and structures are preserved in the Aldstad district of Rena.

Modern Rena is considered a global city, famed for its culture and art. It is often renowned for its architecture, and is often regarded as a cross-section of Acrean architectural and artistic history due to its age. As one of Acrea's major business and financial capitals, numerous foreign multinational corporations maintain offices in Rena.
