SK Torunzidis, Sporto Klubas Torunzidis, is a professional multi-sport club based in the capital city of Eserrei, Torunzidis. While the club has departments for many different sports it is most known for its famed association football department. As a football club SK Torunzidis has won the Eser Super Lyga twelve times and the Eser Cup ten times making it the second most successful in Eserrei behind only Olimpiada Hyast.
History
Club Founding
SK Torunzidis was founded as an amateur olympic sporting club in 1937 specializing in sports like tennis, track and field athletics, and winter sports like skiing and ice hockey as well as football. The club was created as alternative to the already established Olimpiada Torunzidis in the capital city. SK Torunzidis was seen as the working man's club to the more affluent base of Olimpiada Torunzidis.
Success of the 1960s
After seeing the early success of city rival Olimpiada, SK Torunzidis put together the foundation for an uprecidented run in the 1960s. Now a club legend, manager Ardus Plesikas was an unknown with a new modern for its time philosophy leading the club to 8 of 10 Super Lyga championships of the decade. As the team aged into 1970s however the results were not able to be kept and the 70s brought a decline.
Struggles of the 70s and 80s
SK Torunzidis was not able to sustain it's dominance once the legends retired and the game moved on from them.
Resurgence of the 1990s
The 1990s saw a return to the prominence of SK Torunzidis as multiple 2nd and 3rd place finishes led to their first Super Lyga title for 30 years in 1999. This turned into a run of 3 out of 4 championships.
Supporters
SK Torunzidis are often considered the most supported football club in Eserrei selling out the Vintas National Stadium for most games. The club also boasts having the highest merchandise sales of all soccer clubs in the nation. It is believed that SKT supporters outnumber the supporters of Olimpiada in the capital city by a 2 to 1 margin. Olimpiada's support has shifted to the suburbs and outlying towns.
