The Republic of Solstiana is the northernmost nation in Euclea, comprised primarily of the Isle of Svøyen, and it's associated archipelago.

Solstiana's inhabitant live primarily along the 73,884 kilometres of coastline, which keeps the temperature relatively mild and allows permanent settlements to survive the polar winters. The interior is much colder during the winter than the lowlands, especially at high elevations, which has historically discouraged people from living there.

The Republic was formed primarily through the influence of great powers of the Great War, most notably Swetania and Werania, both of which sought the disestablishment of the Kingdom of Solstiana as a punitive measure. During the first few years of its existence, the Republic was tied closely to the movement for international socialism, but as time passed, many efforts were left unfinished. A combination of an aging political establishment and global movement towards neoliberalism ended socialist ambitions in Solstiana and was replaced by the phrase and political concept of "god leve" or good living. Throughout these changes, however, Solstiana has maintained the fundamental councilist republican hierarchy, which it shared with Swetania.

Etymology

The name "Sølvstjerne" is a contraction of sølver (from silfr) and stjærne (from stjarna) meaning "silver star". This name was used poetically in Weranic society to refer broadly to the world beyond the Strait of Rodgwein, which was thought to be uninhabited by humans. The silver star realm was used to describe the North Sea Empires occasionally and, during the early nineteenth century, was used as the basis for the legitimacy of the Atra-Hagafoss dynasty.

In 1935, during the formation of the Solstianan republic, there was a movement to change the name of the nation to something that was not tied to royalty. This movement was ultimately not successful, however, as different propositions failed to ever gain a plurality of the general congress.
