The Trinh-Hoang 96 light machine gun was a light machine gun used by the Imperial Quenminese Army in the interwar period and the Second Europan War. It was the Quenminese copy of the Lucian Bren light machine gun.
The Quenminese forces required a general purpose machine gun that was easy to operate in the field. The Quenminese Army analysed a sample of captured Allied weapons, including the Bren. In tests, the Bren was able to fire in muddy condition and was wholly reliable. The decision was eventually made to copy it. It was to fire a 6.5x50mm Trinh-Hoang cartridge and had a lug for a bayonet. However, it was not without design flaws. The Quenminese engineers were not able to fully perfect the firing mechanism of the Bren. An issue with the dimensional tolerance between the bolt and the barrel led to the gun misfiring or having a fired cartridge stuck by the ejector port. Proper cleaning and maintenance were highly required. A modification was later developed into the Trinh-Hoang 96K variant. Despite improvements, it was still unable to perfect the mechanism found in both the LK 26 and the Bren LMG.
