Type-75 Main Battle Tank
The Type-75 main battle tank was a first-generation Songhua MBT, essentially a carbon copy of the Kaxakhi T-55. It is believed that the Songhua military acquired the technical specifics of the T-55 and its successor the T-62 through Operation 0185, and these two designs have formed the backbone for subsequent Songhua tank designs, as well as further information from Operation 0185. At its height there were more than 5,000 units in service in the Songhua army, but there are now only 1,760 in 55 battalions. The Type-75 was also produced in huge numbers for export. It is being phased out of service.
The Type-75 has seen action in a number of conflicts, including the Namkwon Emergency, the Southwest Frontier War, the Blue Banner Rebellion, and the 6-6 Crisis. Lessons learned in these conflicts have helped to shape subsequent Songhua tank design.
