The Type 261-class is a class of three nuclear-powered aircraft carriers built for the Royal Acrean Navy, based on the Ossorian Scanrúil-class.

Design

General characteristics

The Type 251-class ships have identical proportions to the Scanrúil-class. They have an overall length of 333m, with a beam of 41 meters at the waterline and 77 meters at the extremities, and a draught of 11 m. The ships displace approximately 106,000 t at standard load. Each of the ships' four sets of geared steam turbines drive one 5-bladed propeller and are powered by a pair of liquid fluoride thorium reactors and are rated at 280,000 shaft horsepower. This gives the Type 251-class a speed in excess of 30 knots.

Flight deck and hangar

The Type 251-class ships have a 333m long armoured flight deck. The class is fitted with an enclosed hangar, an angled flight deck, arrestor gear, and four compressed steam catapults. Four deck-edge elevators allow aircraft to be transferred between the hangar and the flight deck. The ships' aircraft capacity is rated at 90 aircraft, but a typical Acrean carrier air wing consists of no more than 82 aircraft. The ships' crew totals 5,700 officers and ratings.
