Vehicle registration plates of Vyvland
Vehicle registration plates in Vyvland are compulsory on all privately-owned and almost all government vehicles. They are unique and identify a car to its owner with access to a database, but also to the municipality of the car owner, which is contained in the code itself. Despite representing the vehicle's municipality, registration numbers are issued not by municipal government, but by the provinces. They are all manufactured centrally in Niyport.

Vyvlander registration plates come in the format P-M-C. P stands for the province, and each province has its own a one-letter code, which may be expanded so that independent cities have their own codes, though plans for this have been shelved since Strossen was granted this status in 2014, making more than the 25 codes possible in the system. M is the a code for the municipality where the vehicle's owner is resident, which can be one to three letters long; a longer municipality code usually means a smaller municipality. Q, O and I are not used in codes, due to their similarities to 0 and 1. It is possible for the same municipality code to be used in different provinces. C is a three to six-digit code unique to the vehicle within that municipality. Should the owner of the car move between municipalities, a new code may be necessary, depending on provincial law. A new code is always necessary when moving a vehicle between provinces.
On the left-hand side of the plate is a white-on-blue a strip identifying the vehicle as being registered in Vyvland. It displays a Vyvlander flag, below which the letters 'VY' are placed. The name of the municipality and province are also included on the plate, above and below the main code respectively.
Style
Civilian plates
By far the most common type of plate in Vyvland is the 'civilian plate', which is yellow or white with black writing. It is used for all vehicles which do not belong to the government, and displays the province and municipality.
Government plates
White-on-red plates signify ambulances, some national government and all diplomatic vehicles. They are most common in Lorence, due to the embassies and government offices located there. Vehicles displaying government plates are not eligible for parking or speeding fines, however it is a prisonable offence to impersonate an ambulance, government or diplomatic vehicle without the correct license. They contain the words Wagen Regneng ('Government Vehicle') in the bottom right corner.
Military plates
Black-on-blue plates signify military vehicles. They contain the words Wagen Militeer ('Military Vehicle') in the bottom right corner.
Police plates
Marked police cars must display white-on-blue plates. This applies both to cars belonging to the nationwide Vyvlander Police and the nineteen provincial or city police forces. For these plates, the blue background of the 'VY' identifier strip on the left-hand side is inverted to avoid clashing with the main body of the plate. These plates contain the words Wagen Polis ('Police Vehicle') in the bottom right corner.
