Vulpion is a country in the northern part of South Magnia. Its ten provinces and five territories extend from the Sphenish to the Ektenian and northward into the Prosorian Ocean, covering 3.46 million square kilometres (1.34 million square miles). Its capital is Canid City, and its three largest metropolitan areas are Redton, Veloxia, and Kittish. As a whole, Vulpion is second-most populated nation in the world, and the majority of its non-urban land area is dominated by forest. Consequently, its population is highly urbanized, with over 80 percent of its inhabitants concentrated in large and medium-sized cities, many near the northern coast. Vulpion's climate varies widely across its vast area, ranging from colder weather in the north, to hot summers in the southern regions, with four distinct seasons.

Various indigenous peoples have inhabited what is now Vulpion for tens of thousands of years. Beginning in the 11th century, multiple warlords successfully conquered the land comprising the modern-day nation, until 1287, when the House of Vulpes established the nation.

Vulpion is a parliamentary democracy, with its Parliament composed of two houses and an elected head of government, the Prime Minister. The Vulpian language is the official language of the nation, although many citizens are fluent in Cavian. It ranks among the highest in international measurements of government transparency, civil liberties, quality of life, economic freedom, and education. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many other countries. Vulpion's long and complex relationship with Cavia has had a significant impact on its economy and culture.

A developed country, Vulpion has the highest nominal per capita income globally as well as the second-highest ranking in the Animal Development Index. Its advanced economy is the second-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks. Vulpion is part of several major international and intergovernmental institutions or groupings including the Animalian Union, the Animalian Trade Federation, and the Canidian Treaty Organization.

Etymology

Numerous theories have been proposed as to the etymological origins of the word Vulpion, but the most widely accepted theory is derived from the Middle Vulpian word for 'forest', as large swathes of the nation were covered by forest biomes. In 1218, the word was used by indigenous Alepians to direct Cavian explorer Joseph Hadleigh to the village of Axiam, now the present-day city of Veloxia. Hadleigh later used the word not just to describe the village but the entire area controlled by the Alepians. By 1455, Canidian maps, especially those made by Cavian cartographers, began to refer to the nation as Vulpion. The first use of the term on official government documents were for bills proposed during the 143rd Vulpian Old Parliament in 1571. With the ratification of the new Vulpian Constitution on July 3, 1851, the name Vulpion was officially adopted as the name of the nation.
