WYNAT DN is an Ottonian company which operates a significant number of convenience stores, both domestically and internationally, across two brands. The company is a major employer within Ottonia dating back to the 1970's when it was formed by the privatization and merger of two lines of late-night stores, the restaurant-oriented Day/Nite chain and the late-night general store WYNAT. In the present day, the majority of the company's stores are franchised and operated under the WYNAT brand, with approximately 52 stores in the Dunnmaar Autonomous Republic continuing to operate under the legacy Day/Nite brand.

Name and Brands

The company's current name is a combination of its two parent chains that merged in the 1970's. Both chains remain in operation in the present day, although notably the Day/Nite brand only remains active as distinct shops in the Dunnmaar Autonomous Republic.

WYNAT!

The younger but more widespread of the two brands is the WYNAT chain, which started as a series of extended-hour miniature general stores in western and southern North Ottonia in the late 1950's. The chain's name is an acronym of the phrase "What You Need Any Time!", which originally served as the motto of the All-Day General Store in Koppenhulm. As the company expanded its operations abroad in the late 1970's and early 1980's, WYNAT! became the dominant brand, even as it incorporated elements of its sister Day/Nite brand. Outside of mainland Ottonia, almost all stores franchised with WYNAT DN operate under the WYNAT! branding and standards.

Day/Nite

Founded in the DAR in the mid-1950's, Day/Nite originally started as a modest chain of open-late restaurants catering primarily to night-shift workers and, on weekends, intoxicated revelers, offering simple street food and hearty fare for the cold, tired, and drunk. As the decade wore on and the 1960's arrived, many Day/Nite locations, due to their locations in working-class neighborhoods, began to stock modest sundries and general store goods for families that found themselves with a need at hours when commissaries and grocers were still closed.

Goods & Services

General Goods

WYNAT! and Day/Nite stores almost universally carry a variety of goods, albeit at a smaller selection and volume than specialist stores and full grocers, including things like small consumer electronics (such as charging cables, batteries), a newstand carrying a mix of local interest newspapers and magazines, typically a small book and movie selection, and, in jurisdictions that permit it, lighters, tobacco and marijuana products. Often OTC pharmaceuticals such as low-grade painkillers, anti-nausea, and anti-allergen medications will be stocked, as will supplies like tape, glue, and safety blades needed to make minor home repairs.

Packaged Food & Beverages

All stores within the brand also carry an assortment of pre-packaged, usually processed foods (disproportionately oriented towards shelf-stable snack foods and some canned goods) and a mix of canned and bottled beverages and soft-drinks. In jurisdictions where convenience stores are permitted to sell alcohol, beer, wine, and liquor are often sold in smaller packages, although alcohol sales are not a universal the way the other food and beverages are. While Ottonian food stuffs are offered for sale to franchises abroad as well, franchisees have the latitude to stock their shelves with locally-available foods to ease supply-chain issues and better suit the customer base's tastes.

Groceries

As part of its general store status, most WYNATs operate a small grocery cooler, typically containing dairy and eggs at a minimum, and sometimes some other small frozen foods and cold processed foods such as cheese or yogurt. Produce is typically only available in very small amounts with limited variety, if at all, and tends to be limited to fruits intended to be sold with prepared foods.

Prepared Food

Most, if not all WYNAT! stores have a prepared foods counter. This typically is limited to sandwich and lunchbox preparations, as well as a number of packaged foods that can be heated for consumption (with particular note for Eonese empanadillas and Ottonian-style pretzel-sausages and some pastries. The prepared food counter may not be necessarily staffed at all hours, but typically some number of foods from it (typically lunchboxes and sandwiches) will be pre-prepared for off-hours.

Fuel

It is not uncommon for WYNAT! stores to operate as fuel stations along Ottonian motorways, particularly in relatively isolated areas where a person may need to stop between towns for fuel or a break. In countries where EV's are common, this often includes charging stations for EV's.
